Geography

The Philippines is situated on the crossroads of the developed western world and the East. It is located in the heart of Southeast Asia, and spreads on over 1,840 km. It consists of 7, 107 islands. The Philippines is easily accessible to different capital cities of the world. Its three main islands are Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

On the west the Philippines is surrounded by the South China Sea. On the east and south it is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean towards Micronesia and Polynesia.

Regarding its territory, the northern neighbouring countries of the Philippines are Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, and further to the north Japan. West of the Philippines are the countries of Southeast Asia, Singapore, Malesia and Thailand. The south of the archipelago reaches as far as Borneo, not so far from the chain Indonesian islands.

Its unique location made the Philippines a commercial, and one of cultural and intellectual centres of Asia.
